SAFETY AND RELIABILITY SYMPOSIUM

FOREWORD
The Safety and Reliability Symposium has attracted this year about 60 papers covering the usual topics of Probabilistic Wave Modelling, Probabilistic Response to Wave Induced Loads, Fatigue Reliability, Reliability of Offshore Structures and Risk Analysis. The specific features of this year's Symposium are the sessions on Ship Collision and on Earthquakes which represent very much a contribution of our Japanese colleagues. In fact, the topic of Earthquakes also gave rise to a Workshop which has not been done in this Symposium for some time. Earthquakes are a potential hazard in several regions around the world and the interest of Safety Assessment both of Offshore and of Coastal Structures is currently a topical issue. Several papers deal with the Reliability of FPSO and Tanker Structures which are becoming of much interest to several deep-water exploitations.
